Wedding Shoes for a Beach Wedding

Sandals for beach wedding

Sandals are a great option for beach wedding footwear

When planning your beach wedding in Hawaii what kind of shoes to wear is one question many brides ask us. You have to consider how they'll look with your wedding dress. Your wedding shoes say so much about your unique style and it’s an important accessory of your wedding attire.  But before you buy the first gorgeous pair you have been dreaming off, take a moment to think about how they'll work into your overall look and how you will be able to walk in them on the beach.

The shoes you choose for your wedding should reflect your personal style and and coordinate with your dress and wedding colors. But they also need to be comfortable and safe to walk in at the beach.

Read on for nine tips for finding the best wedding shoes.

1. Statement Shoes are a great choice for Short Wedding Dresses

If you are wearing a short wedding dress, you can go all out with your wedding shoes because they're really going to be seen. If you're more daring, print or color can work well. If like a retro style, look for a pointy-toe pump or a pair of kitten heels with coordinating accessories like short gloves or a fascinator.

2. Include Special Details Into Wedding Shoes for an A-Line Dress

An A-line or ball gown might hide your shoes to your guests, but you can still wear something that is extra special to you. If your gown has lace detail or pearls, you may want to incorporate that look into your shoes. We can always take photos showing off your shoes.

3. Strappy and Sexy Shoes are a great choice for Mermaid Wedding Dresses

Mermaid, sheath, or column, dresses tend to focus on your curves, so you have the opportunity to wear a sexy, strappy high-heeled sandal or embellished peep toe.

4. Consider the Fabric of the Dress

It's not all about the length of the dress. Think about the fabric as well. You don't want anything damaging the dress. The best shoes to wear with lace wedding dresses don’t have studs or jewels that can rip the delicate fabric of your lace wedding gown.

5. Avoid Skinny Heels for Beach Weddings

Pencil or skinny heels for a beach wedding should be avoided. The heel will sink into sand. It will be challenging to walk. You'll end up walking with a wobble and getting your heels dirty. Think about walking in while all the guests are watching you. You want to feel confident and beautiful.

6. Choose Comfort over Looks

Don't buy a shoe that isn't comfortable when you try it on. After hours of standing in it, it won't be any more comfortable and you won’t be able to enjoy yourself. Once you've determined your comfort level (and pain threshold), think about your gown's silhouette. As much as you might want to wear that four-inch, hot red pump, if you've bought a ball gown, it's going to be seen.

7. Consider Changing your Wedding Shoes After the Beach Ceremony

If you still have your heart set on a gorgeous pair of wedding shoes that aren't the most comfortable, consider wearing the uncomfortable but stunning pair for the ceremony and photos and change at the reception. Just buy yourself two pairs, one comfortable pair to walk to the beach with and one that you want to wear for your photos.

8. Compromise

Comfort doesn't have to be boring. There are plenty of beautiful flats and sandals that will look great.

9. It’s a Beach Wedding

Remember why you choose a beach wedding in the first place. Beach Weddings should be relaxed. Your style of shoes should reflect that. Beaches in Hawaii have often lava rock formation and coral sand. This sand is coarser and can also be hot. You want to feel comfortable walking and feel safe.
